The Snow Flower of the North
sculptural performance
Performed by Andy Barrt, Anton Ershov, and Gabriele Grassi
Composer: Felix Ventouras
The Snow Flower of the North is presented as part of CYFEST 17: Natura Naturans: Human Beings, Nature, Landscape, the international media art festival organised by CYLAND MediaArtLab in collaboration with Ca' Foscari University of Venice, running at CREA Cantieri del Contemporaneo. The performance revives an ancient form of reindeer herders' communication, in which messages were left using symbolic objects placed near stones or mounds. Embodying the Snow Flower, the artist conceals messages within its petals that viewers may receive in exchange for leaving one of their own — creating a living circulation of information rooted in trust and reciprocity. Accompanied by the original score by Felix Ventouras, the work unfolds as a ritual of exchange, memory, and survival

Spaces of Transition
video program curated by the CYLAND Video Archive
Artists have long possessed an uncommon capacity to anticipate the future, encoding premonition into form. Presented as part of the Sleepless Video Art Night, this program brings together works by interdisciplinary artists who construct a post-futuristic vision of the world through a constellation of practices and technologies — computer graphics, digital art, animation, moving image, scientific inquiry, and performance.
The works gathered here navigate three interlocking fields of inquiry: the environmental conditions of a planet in flux; the psychophysical entanglements between human and machinic bodies; and the embodied experience of consciousness across landscapes both material and imagined. Together, they trace an expanded territory of existence — one in which the boundaries between the real and the dreamlike, the personal and the planetary, remain perpetually, productively unstable.
